Hello everyone! welcome back to my blog.
So today I’ve been thinking about my new year resolutions, I always find making resolutions a struggle, deciding what specific things I want to change in my life and put full focus on is hard for me as I have so many little goals, picking one….I just can’t!
At the end of the year I was just feeling so negative about so many things, I could only focus on what was ‘wrong’ with my life. That to me now, is just so funny because after changing my mindset and focusing on the good, I’ve come to realize how beautiful my life is. This bad mindset did push me to make changes and as the new year was coming it couldn’t have been a more perfect time!
I do want to clarify that at no point was I seriously unhappy I just wasn’t feeling that I was reaching my full potential.
Because of all of the things above I love setting resolutions/ challenges for myself in general, I do feel that when people wait for the new year to start something new they don’t truly want to do it but each to their own…. One tip I have for sticking to your resolutions is to slowly introduce whatever it is you’re changing into your life. As you will read soon I’m having to make a lot of food changes but im slowly cutting things out and because of this when I do “slip up” it isn’t the biggest deal and tomorrow is always a new day. Resolutions allow you to analyse what you’re not happy with in your life and make changes to help you become the best version of yourself (cheesy I know)
Here are the resolutions I set for myself……enjoy!
The first resolution I set myself, I actually started before the new year and that was to be a POSITIVE person. I have always been one of those people who would see the negative and then I would find the positive…..Not recommended! One thing I find that helps with this is to understand when I am actually feeling a little down but finding the source of my ‘sadness’. For example, the other day I got up at 6:30am then through the day drove for 7 hours total and didn’t get home until 8:30pm, I was soooo tired! I then had work the next day and was in the worst mood due to lack of sleep. Once I’d got home, had a nap and went for a little walk I felt 100% better!
Happy music also help me get pumped for the day! I used to be obsessed with sad music, ya know Sam Smith, Adele and so on which just wasn’t helping my mood at all! so changing that one small thing has made the biggest difference. So far I’m doing well with this resolution which makes me SO HAPPY!
The Second resolution I set myself was to HEAL MY BODY. yes everyone sets a cliché fitness goal but mine isn’t to lose weight (though that would be nice) mine is to heal my gut health. As I have said before I suffer from IBS and gluten isn’t exactly a friend of mine.
Because just eating normal foods has been such a struggle for me, It has made me really focus on what I can and can’t consume to make my body feel good. Now with IBS my “trigger” foods can change daily which means one day I can eat something like tomato (for example) and feel fine and other days it will make me bloat so quickly!
This has made me realign what I should eat, yes this does mean making food cuts but as there are a lot of changes I’m doing it slowly. the main thing’s I am cutting out are…. refined sugar, sweeteners, unnecessary dairy, soya, rice and fizzy drinks. Also I haven’t had diet coke for almost 3 weeks! for me that’s VERY impressive.
YES, that is a lot considering I already can’t have gluten, but this has left me eating what is known as a paleo diet, not that I’m labeling my eating style at all. I do have so many recipes coming which are currently in the process of being tested and I am SO EXCITED!
Just as a quick roundup on that, I’m pretty much eating meat, fish and veg which is the eating style I prefer to help my body thrive! I am also wanting to give up coffee as it’s so bad for my IBS.

Finally! the last resolution I set was to find a way to MAKE EVERY DAY PRODUCTIVE. As you may know I study interior design from home as part of westminster university. Because I study from home it’s so easy to feel like I’m falling behind (I’m not) and that I’m not trying hard enough which isn’t the best. I just keep working on it everyday! putting in the hours and not making excuses. I love interior design so much and wouldn’t ever dream of doing anything else with my life and i can’t let work or my desire to be social stop me from progressing so this also falls into finding the right balance for me.
There we have it guys! thank you so much for reading and be sure to leave a comment letting me know what changes you’ve made this year. Also don’t forget to follow NiftyNights to keep updated when I post!
